This is Rumor Replay, a weekly column at 9to5Mac offering a quick rundown of the most recent Apple product rumors, with analysis and commentary. Today: M5 MacBook Pro and two Mac displays coming soon, Siri app and new features, an M5 iPad Pro leak, and Apple Glasses launch update. Here are this week’s Apple rumors. M5 MacBook Pro and two new Mac displays coming soon Over the weekend, Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reported that Apple is “nearing mass production” of the M5 MacBook Pro, M5 MacBook Air, and two new Mac monitors. These products are all “slated for release between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year.” My takeaways Two details stood out to me from this report: an M5 MacBook Pro launch this fall is still very much a possibility and we’re getting not one, but two new external displays soon It’s curious that despite October being here already, and Apple’s remaining 2025 products expected to be unveiled soon, the timing of the M5 MacBook Pro still sounds up in the air. I suspect Apple has already decided when it’s launching, but Gurman’s sources are in the dark. The arrival of two new displays is even more intriguing, especially since per their J427 and J527 codenames, they appear to both be 27-inch displays. Perhaps Apple plans to offer two tiers of its Studio Display, creating high and low end options. M5 iPad Pro leaked by YouTuber Last year around this time, YouTuber Wylsacom got his hands on the unannounced, unreleased M4 MacBook Pro. Now this week, that same YouTuber has leaked the forthcoming M5 iPad Pro. The M5 iPad Pro unboxing didn’t actually reveal much about the product’s new features, but it did offer a glimpse into what to expect from the forthcoming M5 chip in terms of benchmarks. My takeaways We were already expecting the M5 iPad Pro to mostly be a spec bump update. Last year’s M4 model brought major changes, so it was unlikely we’d see big year-over-year jumps. That said, the video cast doubt on one of the only rumored features to this point: the addition of a second front-facing camera. I’m now even more intrigued to see what new features Apple has planned to make this new model stand out. Apple has a ChatGPT-style app for new Siri The long-awaited major Siri revamp seems to be proceeding well within Apple. And recently, Bloomberg reported that the company is using a ChatGPT-style app to test out the new Siri’s capabilities. Apple apparently has “no current plans” to release the app to consumers. But that could very well change as the popularity of chatbot-style apps grows. My takeaways Apple executives have long downplayed the importance of chatbot-style AI apps. But user behavior has clearly shown that chatbot apps are trending up. Even if Apple doesn’t ship this internal app when Siri’s upgrades arrive, I do hope a similar sort of functionality gets baked into Type to Siri and/or Spotlight. New Siri features coming in iOS 26.1 or shortly after Speaking of Siri, Bloomberg says that Apple is planning to ship some new Siri features in iOS 26.1 or 26.2. These upgrades won’t be the major changes we’ve been expecting. Rather, they’ll center on “improved Siri control for services apps.” No mention is made of which specific services apps could benefit. My takeaways I was surprised to find that iOS 26 included a handful of new Siri features that Apple never announced. So it’s good to hear there’s more coming in an update soon, even before the major overhaul that’s rumored for the spring. My guess is that these new Siri capabilities are tied to the forthcoming next-gen Apple TV 4K hardware. Since that product is expected to have an A17 Pro chip for Apple Intelligence support, I’d bet Apple has TV app-specific updates coming for Siri that will be branded AI as a selling point for the new hardware. The launch timing of iOS 26.1 and tvOS 26.1 could align perfectly with this product launch. Bloomberg reports that the lighter weight, less expensive ‘Apple Vision Air’ product planned for 2027 has had its development paused. The reason: Apple Glasses are now being given resources that had previously been assigned to Vision Air. That new glasses product also got a release timing update: it’s expected to be unveiled in 2026 but won’t launch until 2027. My takeaways Some outlets have essentially reported this story as the Vision Air product getting canceled. The original report, however, makes very clear that’s not what has happened. Instead, Apple has simply reallocated resources towards the new glasses product to accelerate its launch. Which makes a lot of sense considering the growing competition in this field. Though Apple could always choose to cancel Vision Air altogether, for now this is a simple matter or prioritizing limited time and talent. What are your takeaways from this week’s Apple rumors?
