iPhone 17 Pro: Four new camera features are coming this fall

Apple’s big iPhone 17 unveiling is just a few months away, with a launch event likely in early September. Here are four new camera features expected to arrive with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

#1: Upgraded 48MP telephoto

Ever since the iPhone 11 Pro released in 2019, the three-camera array on the back of the iPhone has become standard for Pro models. But each of those three cameras tends to progress at different times.

iPhone 14 Pro, for example, introduced a 48MP sensor for the main “wide” camera lens. Then last year, the iPhone 16 Pro bumped the ultra wide lens to 48MP.

Now, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to complete the trio by upgrading the telephoto to 48MP too. This change could potentially impact the default zoom option in the Camera app, which is currently 5x.

#2: Multi-cam video recording

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to get an exclusive new feature in the Camera app: support for multi-cam video recording.

Third-party apps have long offered simultaneous video capture, but it’s never before been available in Apple’s own Camera app.

It’s unknown why Apple might make this feature exclusive to new hardware, so perhaps there will be new capabilities with multi-cam recording that haven’t been seen before.
