Back at CES 2025 in January, I saw a sneak peak at something rather interesting: the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro. It’s the first of its kind, being a premium external multi-touch trackpad for Windows users. For creatives on the Mac, the Magic Trackpad has been extremely popular, and now there’s finally an alternative on the Windows end.
First impressions
The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro is built quite well. For all intents and purposes, you can think of it as a Magic Trackpad for Windows. Glass and aluminum build, fair bit of heft, and cold to the touch.
It offers palm rejection, uniform clicking (no traditional diving board mechanism to be found here), and an incredible piezo electric haptic engine. It also offers a 240Hz polling rate, which makes it highly responsive.
I do have to say, I’m by no means a regular Windows user. However, using this trackpad to navigate around Windows made me feel a lot more at home, and the Hyperspace Trackpad Pro certainly offers a much nicer feel and experience than the trackpad built into the laptop I’m testing. It’s nice having two finger smooth scrolling, as well as gestures like pinch to zoom – without facing any stutter.
In my time using it, it’s hard to feel like this doesn’t match the Magic Trackpad on a hardware basis. Granted, it really should. The HyperSpace Trackpad Pro comes in at $149.99, which is slightly more expensive than Apple’s Magic Trackpad at $129.
Standout features
The price tag might make it a bit harder to swallow, especially if you’re a Windows user that’s never previously felt interest in having a dedicated trackpad with multitouch gestures. However, Hyper has one thing up its sleeve to bridge that gap: great software.
With the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro, there’ll be an app called Hydra that allows you to customize your trackpad heavily. For one, you can map out certain gestures or deep presses to perform certain actions, but you can also have special corner shortcuts. Think of it as having a bunch of invisible mappable buttons beneath the suface.
If you’re a creative professional who values having custom shortcuts on your mouse or keyboard, the HyperSpace Trackpad Pro aims to serve as another means of getting work done faster.
