Prime Video's New Recap Feature Aims to Be Your Best Friend for Catching Up

In an era when we often wait years for new TV show seasons to premiere, recaps are needed. Prime Video is now rolling out an AI-powered feature called Video Recaps, which is available in beta for US viewers on a handful of Amazon Original series. This feature can come in handy for Fallout fans waiting for season 2 to drop in December.

Prime Video already offers X-Ray recaps, but Video Recaps use generative AI to find key moments from a season to pull video clips, recapping everything with dialogue, music, sound effects and an AI-generated voiceover. Right now, you can try out the feature on a small number of English-language titles only, such as Jack Ryan, The Rig, Fallout, Upload and Bosch.

To use Video Recaps, go to the next season of a series and look for the recap button on the show's detail page. When you click on it, you will see recap options for the selected title, which may be X-Ray and/or video recap style. Selecting the video format will stream a clip that is a few minutes in length, with the ability to play the first episode of a new season of a series.

Video Recaps is still in beta and launches on living room devices today, according to Prime Video. It will also be available on more devices — like phones — in coming months. Prime Video is included in Amazon Prime memberships, but you can get a standalone subscription to the streaming service for either $9 a month to watch with ads or you can upgrade to stream ad-free for an extra $3. The platform includes TV shows, movies, live events, free content and its own originals such as The Boys, Reacher and Invincible.
