Nvidia has confirmed that last month's security updates are causing gaming performance issues on Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 11 25H2 systems.
To address these problems, the American technology company released the GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 581.94.
"Lower performance may be observed in some games after updating to Windows 11 October 2025 KB5066835 [5561605]," Nvidia said in a support document published earlier this week.
However, it's important to note that this is a beta driver and does not go through the company's usual quality assurance process. Instead, hotfix drivers go through QA much more quickly and are released as soon as possible to address issues affecting a larger number of users.
"The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes," Nvidia noted.
"To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly."
As first reported by Windows Latest, you can download the driver that fixes these issues for Windows 10 x64 and Windows 11 x64 PCs from Nvidia's Customer Care support site.
These gaming issues are not the only ones caused by the October 2025 Windows updates. As BleepingComputer previously reported, Microsoft had to fix bugs that broke localhost HTTP connections, triggered smart card authentication issues, and broke the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on systems with USB mice and keyboards.
In November, Microsoft also addressed a Windows 10 update bug that triggered incorrect end-of-support alerts, and another that caused some systems to boot into BitLocker recovery.
However, since the start of the year, it has lifted two Windows 11 safeguard holds that prevented users who enabled Auto HDR or installed Asphalt 8: Airborne from deploying the Windows 11 2024 Update due to compatibility issues that caused game freezes.
