iOS 18.6 is currently being beta tested, with a launch expected in the next month or so. Unlike the major iOS 26 update arriving this fall, 18.6 will focus primarily on bug fixes and stability. But Apple has just shared details on two new features coming in iOS 18.6 too—at least for EU users.
Installing apps and marketplaces from the web will get easier with iOS 18.6
Yesterday Apple announced sweeping changes coming to iPhone and iPad users in the EU.
The updates involve App Store-related policies and practices, and will impact both users and developers.
On the user-facing side, there are two changes coming related to app installation.
As detailed on this page, iOS and iPadOS 18.6 will offer a newly updated experience for users who:
Install third-party app marketplaces from the web or install third-party apps from the web
In both cases, users should have a smoother, less fear-inducing time installing third-party marketplaces and apps directly from the web.
Current versions of iOS make both acts possible, but include warning screens that EU regulators seem to have taken issue with.
