Google announced a new “extended repair program” for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones yesterday after it confirmed display issues with a “limited number” of devices, as spotted by 9to5Google. The company is doing the same for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, although Google didn’t specify what’s wrong with it other than “issues that affect functionality of the device.”

According to a support page on Google’s website, the company will repair Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL devices suffering from a vertical line running from the top to the bottom of the display which many users have reported on online forums like Reddit. The repair program also covers displays exhibiting flicker, and while both models are now covered for three years “after the original retail-purchase date,” Google says devices with cracked screens or damage from “liquid intrusion” may be disqualified from the free repairs. You can check if your Pixel is eligible on Google’s website.

It’s a similar story for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, according to another support page on Google’s website. However, instead of repairing those devices, Google will be replacing them entirely as long as they’re within the three-year window after the purchase date. Again, cracked displays or water damage may also make devices ineligible for replacement, but you can confirm if your foldable is eligible for a replacement through Google’s website.

We don’t know what issue the company is addressing for the Fold, but as 9to5Google notes, it’s potentially also screen related, given the support page includes an FAQ at the bottom advising users who paid for a Pixel 9 Pro Fold screen replacement prior to yesterday’s announcement.
