The first season of It: Welcome to Derry is reaching its end. The initial run of the Stephen King spinoff series successfully brought Pennywise the Dancing Clown, the iconic villain he initially brought to life in his iconic novel nearly four decades ago, to television. Now, the finale episode is upon us.

Multiple adaptations of King's novel have found his infamous clown scaring audiences. However, It: Welcome to Derry is the first iteration to be presented in an episodic format. It's also the first that has dialed the story back to the past, showing how the troubled town of Derry, Maine, deals with this curse of fear and violence in the year 1962.

According to King lore, Pennywise returns to wreak havoc every 27 years. If the show follows the three-season plan laid out by co-creator Andy Muschietti, seasons 2 and 3 will travel further back into the past to the years 1935 and even 1908.

Muschietti co-created the horror series with Jason Fuchs and his sister, Barbara Muschietti -- the siblings brought 2017's It to the big screen, as well as the sequel that followed two years later.
