Apple TV just unveiled an early look at Widow’s Bay, a new series starring Matthew Rhys, who most recently gave a chilling performance in Netflix’s ‘The Beast in Me.’ Here are the first details and release date for Widow’s Bay.
Widow’s Bay is a new comedic horror series coming to Apple TV
Apple continues slowly revealing details of its 2026 content lineup. The streamer will kick off the year with several fan-favorite returning shows, but today it announced a forthcoming original premiere.
Widow’s Bay hits Apple TV on Wednesday, April 29 with three episodes, followed by weekly releases through June 17.
Emmy Award winner Matthew Rhys stars in the series, which hails from creator Katie Dippold and is directed largely by Hiro Murai (“Atlanta“, “Station Eleven”).
Here is Apple’s official series summary:
“Widow’s Bay” is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true, start happening again. “Widow’s Bay” blends genuine horror with character-driven comedy.
Comedic horror is a difficult genre needle to thread, but I can absolutely see how Matthew Rhys might strike the balance well. There are still plenty of details about the series being kept under wraps, but I’m eager to learn more.
