After launching Voice Typing Dictation on the Mac last month, Speechify is continuing its push to become more than an AI text-to-speech platform. The company today released its Voice AI Assistant on iOS, after previously offering it only on Chrome and the web. Here are the details.

Speechify wants to replace ChatGPT and Siri

Speechify says that with the release of its general-purpose Voice AI Assistant on iOS, the company is ready to take on platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Siri, and Alexa.

To that end, Speechify leverages a combination of third-party models, as well as in-house models developed by over 40 researchers and engineers in its applied AI research lab.

With the app, iPhone users can now use natural language to browse the web, have conversations based on the content of files and documents, create podcasts based on these documents, and even ask the assistant to quiz them, lecture them, or summarize content through multi-turn conversations.

Here’s Speechify CFO, Pankaj Agarwal, on today’s launch:

Speechify is now an AI Assistant that can research for you, talk to you, write for you, create for you, entertain you, quiz you, browse the internet for you, lecture you, summarize for you, and read for you. We believe that the future of AI Assistants across all use cases will be driven by voice, and Speechify will win given our voice-first approach. Our mission is to 10x your productivity and joy across work, learning, and every part of your daily life.

While Speechify’s Voice AI Assistant is currently cloud-based, the company is working on implementing on-device models in future updates, as well as support for more complex commands, managing notifications, and automating tasks such as answering and making phone calls based on user-defined prompts.

The company says that today’s release will help with its goal to be the most used AI Assistant in the world, “serving every use case imaginable from work to learning to entertainment”.
