Today Apple unveiled Pixelmator Pro for iPad alongside its new Apple Creator Studio subscription. And in a new page on Apple’s website, the company has revealed the fate of its existing Pixelmator and Photomator apps for iOS.
If you’re interested in Apple’s new Pixelmator Pro app for iPad, there’s now a dedicated new page on Apple’s site with details on both the iPad and Mac versions.
At the bottom in a Q&A section, Apple reveals its plans for the two other existing Pixelmator apps on iOS: Pixelmator and Photomator.
Pixelmator, it seems, will no longer be receiving updates. Per Apple’s site:
Pixelmator Classic for iOS, released in 2014 as a companion app to the now-discontinued Pixelmator Classic for Mac, provides basic image editing features such as cropping, color adjustments, and effects. It remains a functional app but is no longer being updated.
As for Photomator, while there are minimal details, it seems the app will continue to exist and receive future updates. Apple says:
Photomator remains available as a separate purchase from the App Store.
Pixelmator for iOS has still received updates since being acquired by Apple, with the last one coming four months ago. Version 3.1.16 is the latest release.
You can still download Pixelmator here on the App Store and Photomator is available here.
