A new Apple monitor has reportedly appeared in a Chinese regulatory database. This comes as rumors suggest Apple will update at least one of its external displays, either the Studio Display or Pro Display XDR, at some point in 2026.
Apple’s new Mac external display could be imminent
The discovery was made by MacRumors on Thursday. The regulatory filing references the model number A3350 and apparently reveals the new monitor “will be equipped with a high-performance LCD display.” There aren’t any other details about specifications and it’s not clear if the filling is referring to a new version of the Studio Display or the Pro Display XDR.
Apple released the Studio Display in 2022 alongside the first Mac Studio. The Pro Display XDR, meanwhile, debuted in 2019 with the revamped Mac Pro. Neither product has seen an update since first being introduced, so Apple’s external display lineup is quite dated right now.
In December, a rumor suggested that the new Studio Display will have three key changes:
A19 chip ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate HDR support
The current Studio Display features an A13 Bionic chip with a 60Hz display and no support for HDR.
Bloomberg has also reported that Apple is working on a new Mac external display for a release in 2026.
There’s no word on exactly when Apple will release this rumored Studio Display or Pro Display XDR refresh. This new model number appearing in a regulatory database could indicate it’s coming sooner rather than later. Apple is also working on new high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max versions of the MacBook Pro, which could be released as soon as this month. It’s possible that the new external display is released alongside those laptops.
