One of the longest-standing wishlist items for users of the web-based version of WhatsApp is at last on the way. Here are the details.

As spotted by WABetaInfo, Meta is working on voice and video group calling support for WhatsApp’s web client. The feature is currently “Under Development” and is not yet available for general beta testers.
This means that soon, users will be able to join group calls, “regardless of the device they are using”.
With the upcoming feature, WhatsApp’s web interface will gain parity with both the mobile and desktop apps, and is slated to be particularly useful on shared or work computers, where users may not always have the necessary permission to install software.

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow users to call within their groups directly from the web client. It’s worth noting that this feature was partially announced last year, but support for groups was still in a very early stage at the time. However, WhatsApp is now improving the basic calling functionality to make it fully compatible with group chats. This added compatibility will ensure that all users can participate in group calls, regardless of the device they are using.
WABetaInfo also says the web update could eventually support up to 32 participants in group calls, though WhatsApp may initially deploy a lower cap, such as eight or 16 users, while it refines the feature ahead of wider release.
The report also notes that WhatsApp is working on additional calling features for the web client, including support for incoming call notifications, shareable call links, and the ability to schedule calls with a name and description, though these capabilities are still under development and may roll out at a later stage.
