One of Apple TV’s best-reviewed shows is back, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday through March 11. Here’s what to expect from this season.

Drops of God season 2 drops on Apple TV

When it comes to its overall impact in pop culture, Drops of God may not be a Severance-level, or Pluribus-level series. Still, as my colleague Ryan wrote a few days ago, it is “one of the most overlooked gems in Apple TV’s library of shows and movies”.

In fact, the series won the 2024 International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series and its first season holds a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Drops of God tells the story of Camille Léger (played by Fleur Geffrier), a young woman whose estranged father (a world-renowned wine critic) dies and leaves behind an extraordinary wine collection.

To claim her inheritance, she must face Issei Tomine (played by Tomohisa Yamashita), her father’s former protégé, in a high-stakes series of blind tastings that span continents, cultures, and decades of wine history.

The series is based on a homonymous manga by Tadashi Agi, which is actually a pseudonym for the brother-and-sister duo Yuko and Shin Kibayashi.

Following its success, the manga series made it to the New York Times’ manga bestsellers list, and Apple acquired the rights to its U.S.-French-Japanese live-action production, which premiered on Apple TV in April 2023.

If you’ve already watched the first season of Drops of God and want to know what’s in store for season 2, here’s Apple’s synopsis:

In season two of “Drops of God,” Camille and Issei are thrust into their most perilous challenge yet: to uncover the origin of the world’s greatest wine, a mystery so profound that even their legendary father, Alexandre Léger, could not solve it. What begins as a pursuit of legacy, becomes a search for truth that spans continents and centuries, unearthing forgotten histories, hidden rivalries and secrets buried for generations. As the search pushes them to the edges of the world, and to the darkest corners of themselves, Camille and Issei must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice. The answer could shatter their bond as siblings … or destroy them both.
