TL;DR In the wake of losing market share to other brands, and big device cancellations, a new report suggests that OnePlus may exit smartphone production.
This move would follow OPPO’s announcement it was restructuring Realme as a sub-brand again.
OnePlus has yet to formally respond to the allegations, and so far we’ve yet to see these claims substantiated.
Update, January 21, 2026 (06:53 AM ET): OnePlus North America has also shared a similar statement with us, reproduced below: OnePlus North America continues to operate, with full guarantee of users’ after-sales support, software updates, and rights commitments. This provides some much-needed clarity on OnePlus’s future in the US. Update: January 20, 2026 (10:49 PM ET): As we mentioned in our original reporting below, we reached out to OnePlus for comment. The company’s India team has now responded, saying OnePlus’ operations in the country will continue as “normal.”
While this doesn’t directly address every claim making the rounds, it does suggest that OnePlus isn’t planning any kind of wind-down overnight, at least in one of its biggest and most important markets.
Below is the brief, one-line statement OnePlus India shared with us. OnePlus India’s business operations continue as normal After we received this statement, OnePlus’ India CEO, Robin Liu, shared a more substantial update on X, confirming that OnePlus is not shutting down. He dismissed the Android Headlines report, calling it “false” and “unverified.” Original article: Healthy competition in the smartphone industry is a wonderful thing, fostering innovation, pushing limits, and keeping designs interesting and fresh. But this is also one brutal market to find your niche in, and time after time, we’ve seen major players close up shop, even after years of operation. Just the other day, we heard that ASUS was was moving away from making new phones, and now a new report claims that OnePlus could be the next big phone brand to go the way of HTC, LG, and so many others before it.
