One of the key reasons behind the Steam Deck’s success is that it runs on Valve’s SteamOS platform, which delivers better efficiency and is optimized for a more console-like experience. But if you’re looking for an alternative, the SteamOS version of the Lenovo Legion Go S is currently on sale. The handheld is originally priced at $649, but for a limited time, you can pick it up for $599 from Best Buy, saving $50 that you can put toward your favorite games.
Unlike Lenovo’s Legion Go and Legion Go Gen 2, the Legion Go S doesn’t include detachable controllers for a more traditional design. The SteamOS variant comes in a “Nebula Violet” hue and measures 11.77 x 5.02 x 0.89 inches and weighs 1.61 pounds. At the heart of the Legion Go S is an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, which is based on the Zen 3+ architecture featuring a four-core and eight-thread CPU design, a 12 CU RDNA 2 GPU, 10MB of cache, and a 15–30 watt cTDP. For memory, you get 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM clocked at 6400 MT/s along with a 512GB standard-sized 2280 M.2 SSDs.

In our testing of the Windows 11 version of the Legion Go S powered by the Ryzen Z2 Go, we found that it is about 10 percent faster than the original Legion Go on battery power and anywhere from 10 to 20 percent slower than the Legion Go when plugged in and using the 40-watt TDP power profile. Considering SteamOS is more optimized than Windows, one can expect it to offer slightly better performance and potentially more battery life.
With the current discount bringing its price closer to the Steam Deck, the Legion Go S is certainly an attractive option for gamers who want a modern design, upgradeable storage, and the ease of SteamOS without sacrificing performance or portability.
