Los Blancos navigated a tricky test against Valencia last weekend to come away from the Mestalla Stadium with a 2-0 win, which put them within a point of leader Barça, who plays on Monday. With Alvaro Arbeloa's team not involved in Copa del Rey action in midweek, the hosts have had almost a full week to prepare for this game. It's a break that should allow key player Kylian Mbappé to recover in time from a minor knee injury sustained last time out.
They face a Real Sociedad team that has shown a marked improvement since the appointment of Pellegrino Matarazzo back in December. The American coach has led the Basque club to four wins in their last six La Liga games, transforming them from relegation candidates to genuine European qualification contenders.
