How long do job postings stay open?

read original related products more articles

This snapshot looks at a sample of about 500K active job postings (475,840 listings) collected over the last 180 days.

Overall, job posts tend to stay open for about 3 to 4 weeks: the typical (median) posting is live for 20 to 30 days, and about a quarter stay up longer than roughly 59 days.

Some categories stay open longer than average. Retail, Food & Hospitality roles have a 33 day median window, which can happen because high turnover or recurring roles are kept continuously posted. Other categories close faster, like Admin & Office (18.2 days) and Recruiting (22.0 days).

What this means for applying: applying quickly still helps, but it is not usually a same day race. For many professional and knowledge work roles, applying within the first 1 to 2 weeks is typically a strong window. The more time sensitive exception is roles that fill quickly (like admin, seasonal work, and many hourly or warehouse postings), where earlier is better. For example, we see warehouse and seasonal work job postings close within a week.
