There's an exciting UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash in store in Istanbul on Tuesday, as a mercurial Galatasaray team hosts Liverpool, which is looking to build on its third-place finish in the league phase.
The host's up-and-down form in the league phase of this tournament meant it had to settle for a playoff spot. Okan Buruk's men came through a tough test against Italian giant Juventus with a 7-5 aggregate win over two wildly entertaining matches.
While Liverpool has endured a disappointing defense of its English Premier League title, its European performances -- particularly away from home -- have been largely impressive. The Reds also have fond memories of this great city, having famously won the 2005 final in Istanbul.
Tuesday's match marks a repeat of a league-phase game between these two teams. That game in September ended in a 1-0 victory for the Turkish side, with Victor Osimhen scoring a first-half penalty.
Galatasaray takes on Liverpool at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park in Istanbul, on Tuesday, March 10. Kickoff is set for 8:45 p.m. TRT local time in Turkey, making it a 1:45 p.m. ET or 10:45 a.m. PT start in the US, a 5:45 p.m. GMT kickoff in the UK and a 4:45 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia on Wednesday.
