Apple has launched a lot of new products already this year, but plenty more are coming, including two that will reportedly be upgraded with OLED displays for the first time: the MacBook Pro and iPad mini.
MacBook Pro and iPad mini getting OLED displays from Samsung and LG, says Digitimes
Apple currently offers OLED displays across its full iPhone lineup, on Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. But with iPad and Mac, OLED is a rarity.
Currently, iPad Pro is the only iPad with an OLED display, and the Mac doesn’t offer OLED at all.
But that’s rumored to change later this year.
Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has previously reported that OLED models of several new products are in the works. A new Digitimes report corroborates the coming transitions, highlighting two OLED upgrades expected soon:
The report mentions that Apple wants to reduce its reliance on Chinese suppliers due to “tightening US restrictions.“ Therefore, with more products transitioning to OLED, Apple plans to rely more heavily on Korean suppliers.
Digitimes says for the M6 MacBook Pro and new iPad mini, Apple is “expected to rely predominantly on OLED panels supplied by South Korea’s Samsung Display and LG Display.” The same is true for the OLED displays in the upcoming iPhone 18 line and iPhone Fold.
Both the M6 MacBook Pro and new iPad mini are currently expected to ship this fall.
