Why This Matters

Polar's new Street X sports watch marks a significant return to the fitness tracker market with a rugged, versatile device designed for both outdoor sports and everyday urban use. Its durable build, extensive sports support, and impressive battery life make it a compelling option for active consumers seeking a dedicated fitness device without the full smartwatch features. This launch highlights Polar's focus on specialized fitness tools that prioritize durability and long-lasting performance over traditional smartwatch functionalities.

Key Takeaways

Polar

TL;DR Polar announced the Street X, a new rugged sports watch.

The durable device supports more than 170 sports, GPS tracking, and up to 10-day battery life.

It is available now at Polar.com and select retailers, priced at $249.99.

Polar’s latest isn’t trying to be your next smartwatch, but it might be the brand’s clearest shot yet at an everyday fitness tracker. Announced today, the Polar Street X is a new rugged sports watch designed to move between workouts and everyday life, specifically in urban environments.

To that end, the Street X keeps things lightweight without sacrificing durability. It pairs a 1.28-inch AMOLED touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 3 and a reinforced polymer body, all in a 48g build. It’s also tested to MIL-STD-810H standards and rated for WR50 water resistance. According to Polar, the watch is directed at athletes balancing both indoor and outdoor workouts, as well as apparently aggressive commutes.

On the fitness side, the watch supports more than 170 sports profiles and includes built-in GPS with route guidance, plus a compass and barometer. It also packs Polar’s usual recovery tools, including Training Load Pro and Nightly Recharge, alongside sleep tracking with stages, heart rate variability, and overnight skin temperature. Finally, for late-night or early-morning workouts, the watch also boasts the brand’s first built-in LED flashlight, with both white and red light.

Battery life is another high point. Polar claims up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 43 hours of continuous GPS tracking with heart rate enabled. With power-saving settings enabled, it can stretch as far as 170 hours. That puts the watch ahead of many leading smartwatches, though it comes with a much more limited set of apps and smart features. Shoppers won’t find Wear OS or the Play Store on Polar’s devices.
