The third of Apple’s three anticipated developments this week has arrived. Apple’s recently announced AirPods Max 2 headphones are now available for pre-order.
AirPods Max 2 include Apple’s H2 chip
On March 16th, Apple announced AirPods Max 2 in a surprise move. You can read about everything different between Apple’s previous AirPods Max and the new version here.
The new headphones look just like AirPods Max with USB-C, which introduced new color options and the same charging port as iPhone 15 and later. The original AirPods Max featured Apple’s Lightning port for charging and wired connectivity.
Unlike the first two versions, AirPods Max 2 headphones include Apple’s H2 chip found in AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 4. This powers features like more effective active noise cancellation, enhanced sound quality, Adaptive Audio mode, and Live Translation.
Color options include midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. AirPods Max 2 have the same $549 price. Customers pre-ordering from Apple’s website can opt for free custom engraving. AppleCare+ can be attached for $2.99/month or $29.99/year, or AirPods Max can be included in AppleCare One with two other devices for $19.99/month.
Apple initially said AirPods Max 2 would be available “early next month.” Turns out both Apple and Amazon list ship times of April 1 through April 3, meeting that promise.
For now, you can save $100 on the USB-C AirPods Max hardware, but you’ll miss out on the latest software features that we highlight in our comparison mentioned above.
