Why This Matters

Apple's release of the macOS 26.5 beta marks a significant step toward upcoming software updates, offering developers early access to new features and improvements ahead of WWDC 26. This iterative update underscores Apple's continuous focus on refining user experience and preparing for future innovations in its ecosystem.

Key Takeaways

Apple is rolling out the first macOS 26.5 beta to developers, alongside iOS 26.5 beta 1, iPadOS 26.5 beta 1, and the rest of its operating systems. Here are the details.

Less than a week after releasing macOS 26.4, Apple is now rolling out the first developer beta of macOS 26.5.

macOS 26.4 introduced multiple features that Apple had not previously announced, chief among them the new Charge Limit feature. macOS 26.4 also brought eight new emoji, the first consumer-facing alert about Rosetta 2’s sunsetting, and the return of the compact tab view in Safari.

This will likely be the last major macOS 26 update before WWDC26, where Apple is expected to announce macOS 27. Last year, macOS 15.5 rolled out in May, while macOS 15.6 was launched in July, after WWDC25.

As is usually the case with first betas, it is currently unknown which, if any, changes or bug fixes Apple has got in store. We are digging through the system and will report back with noteworthy findings.

The release build for macOS 26.5 beta 1 is 25F5042g.
