Why This Matters

Amazon's potential acquisition of Globalstar could significantly impact the satellite connectivity market, especially as it relates to emergency services and satellite internet. The involvement of Apple, with its substantial stake and infrastructure commitments, adds a layer of strategic complexity to the deal, influencing industry dynamics and consumer access to satellite-based features. This move highlights the growing importance of satellite technology in enhancing connectivity and emergency response capabilities.

Key Takeaways

Amazon is reportedly “in talks” to acquire Globalstar, the company that connects Apple’s iPhone and Apple Watch satellite features. Apple’s 20% stake in the company is a key factor in negotiations.
