Why This Matters

The introduction of discounted refurbished M4 iPad Pro models by Apple provides consumers with more affordable access to high-performance tablets, though with some hardware differences compared to the latest M5 models. This move highlights Apple's strategy to extend product lifecycle and offer budget-friendly options, impacting both the tech industry and consumers by balancing performance and cost. It also signals a shift in the refurbished market, making premium devices more accessible.

Key Takeaways

Apple has added newer iPad Pro models to its refurbished store for a discounted price. However, there are key spec differences between the newest refurb iPad Pro models and new hardware.

Apple now selling refurbished M4 iPad Pro

Before now, the newest iPad Pro refurb option was the M2 model from 2022. Apple never made an M3 iPad Pro.

With refurbished model prices from $759 for the 11-inch model, the discounted M4 hardware from 2024 offers a nice savings over the current M5 hardware.

Customers can find the refurbished 13-inch M4 iPad Pro with prices from $1019. Both sizes include storage option choice, space black and silver finishes, optional cellular, and the choice between standard and nano-texture glass.

The refurbished M4 iPad Pro competes with the new M4 iPad Air introduced last month. The 11-inch model starts at $599, and the 13-inch model starts at $799.

Apple charges $999 for the base model 11-inch M5 iPad Pro and $1299 for the base model 13-inch M5 iPad Pro.

Earlier this week, Apple also began selling the M5 MacBook Pro and A16 iPad at discounted prices on its refurbished store.
