Why This Matters

Apple TV is expanding its sci-fi offerings with two new spinoff series rooted in popular hits, highlighting its commitment to high-quality genre content. These series not only deepen existing storylines but also explore new perspectives, enriching the overall sci-fi landscape for viewers and industry stakeholders alike.

Key Takeaways

Apple TV keeps proving itself a destination for sci-fi fans, and two of the streamer’s beloved hits have inspired spinoff series that are on the way.

Star City is a spinoff to For All Mankind, coming May 29

Long before Severance, Pluribus, and Silo, the first ever Apple TV sci-fi series was For All Mankind.

New seasons of For All Mankind are still being made, with season 5 airing right now.

Right when that season wraps up, a new spinoff series will debut: Star City.

Star City is an alt-history space race drama just like For All Mankind, set in the same basic world and storyline. But rather than focusing on the Americans, it tells the story from the Soviets’ perspective.

Here’s Apple’s official summary:

A bold new chapter inspired by the critically acclaimed space-race drama, “For All Mankind,” “Star City” is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward.

Star City hits Apple TV on Friday, May 29 with two episodes, followed by weekly releases through July 10.
