Apple has certainly taken its time entering the foldable phone market, with its first launch set to take place around eight years after Samsung.
A key reason for this delay is believed to be the quality of the folding display. Early Samsung foldables were very vulnerable to the screen being damaged by trapped dust and other debris, and the crease was very visible and rather ugly.
Apple seemingly solved this problem after getting its own engineers involved in both the display and the hinge mechanism, and is now believed to be on track for a launch in September – or perhaps a month or so later.

Huawei Pura X Max 5G
The Huawei Pura X Max 5G has now been launched in China, and the form factor is close to identical to that expected from the iPhone Ultra.
While previous foldables have had a closed aspect ratio similar to conventional smartphones, Apple is believed to be going for a wider screen on the outside. That obviously also creates a wider aspect ratio for the larger screen on the inside.
Huawei’s smartphone appears to have very similar dimensions. Here’s the external display:
