My wife Rita and I have just found out today (4.30.2026) about Sally's sudden passing. We pray that all those who loved her dearly find comfort in all the memories.

We got to know Sally when we were graduate students at the University of Utah. She was indeed an amazing friendly and loving person - a class of her own.

We are deeply grateful for your friendship dear Sally. You are a pearl in our life's treasure. Lambert & Rita Schaelicke

Sally and I met when we both got very drunk in a bar in North Carolina. She would late introduce me to my wife, and be my best person when I got married. The world was lucky to have her for even this short time. I will miss her.

I knew Sally years ago. She was my first roommate in graduate school at Princeton. We kept in touch for a while including summers at Bell Labs and when she moved to Portland she asked me if I knew anyone there. I connected her to an old high school friend of mine. Through that connection she and the high school friend ended up fixing up a college friend of mine with a friend of hers - the two have been married for several decades now. During this time I was living in Chicago and then North Carolina so I did not see Sally. And then I moved to Los Angeles while she was in Europe and then back on the east coast. So I lost touch with her and I am very saddened to hear about her passing. It would have been so easy to connect with her on zoom and I truly regret that this did not happen. I will miss her smile and love of life. Andrea Bertozzi

I met Sally during her time at Chalmers. Her big heart still stands out — always ready to offer a place to stay to someone in need, or care and kindness to an animal in trouble. Magnus Almgren
