Plex has announced a massive price increase for the Lifetime tier of its Plex Pass plan. Starting in July, Plex says that the Lifetime Plex Pass price will increase from $249.99 to a whopping $749.99.
You still have six weeks to lock in the current pricing …
In a blog post outlining the change, Plex admits it has considered eliminating the Lifetime Plex Pass altogether, citing the stability of recurring subscriptions. Instead of doing that, however, the company has decided to keep the option around, just at a significantly higher price.
When Plex first started, we were movie and TV fans who wanted to make something great for people like us. We chose to offer a Lifetime subscription early on because we knew many of our customers would rather pay a higher one-time fee for software that they can depend on every day. We’ve considered eliminating the Lifetime Plex Pass in the past, given that recurring subscriptions help us sustain long-term development, but we know it’s still a valuable option for many in our community. So instead of retiring it, we’re keeping it available at a price that reflects the real, ongoing value of the software we’re committed to building and maintaining for years to come.
Plex says that nothing is changing for current Lifetime Plex Pass holders. Pricing for annual and monthly plans is also unchanged. As a refresher, here’s Plex’s current pricing:
Plex Remote Watch Pass: $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year
Plex Pass: $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year
Lifetime Plex Pass: $249.99 (increasing to $749.99 on July 1, 2026)
The price increase will officially go into effect on July 1, 2026, at 12:01 AM UTC. This means you have around six weeks to buy the Lifetime Plex Pass at the current $249.99. I imagine quite a lot of Plex diehards will jump on that opportunity. I can’t imagine many will pay $749.99, and perhaps that’s exactly what Plex wants.
