iOS 26.5.1 fixes charging bug on iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air

Next week is a big one for Apple, with WWDC 2026 bringing the unveilings of iOS 27 and more.

But today, ahead of the conference, Apple has another new update to iOS 26 ready for users of certain iPhone models.

iOS 26.5.1 is now available for download if you have a model in the iPhone 17 family. You can find it in Settings ⇾ General ⇾ Software Update.

Here are Apple’s official release notes:

This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained.

Our own Benjamin Mayo first reported on this battery drain issue in late April when he encountered the problem on his iPhone Air.

It’s possible the update fixes some other smaller bugs as well, as Apple doesn’t usually mention all changes in its release notes.

Apple released iOS 26.5 last month with RCS end-to-end encrypted messaging, a new Apple Maps feature, and more. It’s common for smaller x.1 updates to follow a few weeks later with fixes for additional bugs, and that’s exactly what’s happened today.
