While fitness seemed to be a large missing component in the new updates Apple unveiled Monday at WWDC 2026, there are some new additions to expect for the iPhone's built-in workout tools when iOS 27 launches later this year.

Workout Buddy, Apple's motivating feature that provides real-time feedback during your workouts, will now be available in Spanish, the company announced during its developers conference keynote. You'll also be able to use the feature on your Apple Watch, even when your phone isn't nearby.

To use Workout Buddy, you have to grant your Apple Watch permission to use it. Your watch can also connect to Workout Buddy via Bluetooth headphones.

I had hopes for some advanced fitness features during today's keynote address, especially with all the Apple Intelligence advancements. Apple competitors such as Samsung and Fitbit are already ahead of the curve in this space. Apple has a dedicated Apple Watch audience, and this would've been the ideal scenario where Apple could've curated the ultimate workout or health coach.

This seems like a missed opportunity in a time when many fitness and wellness wearables are competing to have the most advanced features in the tech space.
