In addition to releasing macOS Tahoe 26.6 developer beta 2 today, Apple also seeded Release Candidates for two older versions of macOS. Here are the details.
Earlier today, Apple released the second wave of developer betas for iOS 26.6, iPadOS 26.6, macOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, watchOS 26.6, visionOS 26.6, and HomePod 26.6.
Additionally, Apple rolled out Release Candidates for macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 (23J607) and macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 (24G809). This was the second RC rollout for both versions after the first rollout on May 26, followed by the public beta rollout on May 28.
The release notes for both builds mention only that they provide ”important security fixes and (are) recommended for all users,” continuing the company’s effort to improve on and support older versions for users who either can’t or choose not to update to the Mac’s most current version.
Interestingly, Apple’s other releases today were not Release Candidates, but rather, regular beta builds. This could mean that macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 and macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 could arrive in the coming days, possibly alongisde iOS 26.5.2.
