Why This Matters

The introduction of iOS 27's support for updating Apple TV software via the Home app streamlines the update process, making it more convenient for users to keep their devices current without needing physical access. This enhancement reflects Apple's ongoing focus on improving user experience and device management across its ecosystem, which is especially beneficial for consumers and the tech industry aiming for seamless device integration.

Key Takeaways

In addition to major changes to Siri and Apple Intelligence, iOS 27 is full of excellent quality-of-life improvements. One change that went under the radar is that iOS 27 makes it easier to update your Apple TV firmware.

As spotted on social media today by Aaron Perris, iOS 27 adds support for installing Apple TV software updates via the Home app on iPhone.

This means that if Apple releases a new version of tvOS, you no longer have to physically go to your Apple TV to update it. You can now do so by opening the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, choosing your Apple TV, and installing the update from there. It’s very similar to the process of installing a HomePod software update.

This is a small change but one that will make it easier to stay on top of Apple TV software updates. You can, of course, also rely on auto-updates, but that’s not always a reliable system.

iOS 27 is currently available to developers in beta. Apple just released iOS 27 beta 2 today. Apple says a public beta will be released in July, followed by a release to everyone later this fall.
