Threads is rolling out several updates to Live Chats, including translation support, new moderation tools, and expanded access for Community Champions. Here are the details.
Threads expands Live Chats functionality
As spotted by TechCrunch, Threads added several capabilities to Live Chats today, after announcing the feature last April.
Live Chats let up to 150 users join public, real-time group conversations around live events, with support for messages, photos, videos, links, reactions, and polls. When a chat session is full, users can still watch the conversation, react, and participate in polls.
When it first launched, Live Chat sessions could only be created and hosted by a small group of creators and Community Champions. Starting today, all Community Champions can create and host their own Live Chats, with the option to invite up to three co-hosts to help manage the conversation.
Starting today, hosts can also delete messages for everyone and, as TechCrunch noted, “the platform is testing ways to make host messages appear more visually prominent in chats.”
Additionally, Live Chats are gaining translation support, which should make conversations more accessible to users who speak different languages, particularly during events that attract and engage global audiences, such as the ongoing World Cup.
Finally, TechCrunch adds that Threads is also working on desktop support and pinned messages, but there is no word on when either will be rolled out.
