A new analysis of the creative economy, published in the online repository arXiv and part of a new book, suggests AI-generated content may now account for 44% of uploads on some platforms, while drawing only 1% to 3% of streams. The web is increasingly submerged in AI slop, the cheap, disposable material created with generative AI tools. But while would-be digital opportunists are tipping trashy content onto platforms by the bucketload, early signs suggest audiences are not buying much of it.
