One of the best AI-powered transcription apps for the Mac just got even better, with a major update that introduces a redesigned transcript editor and significant performance improvements. Here are the details.
MacWhisper 14 is here
For those unfamiliar with MacWhisper, it is a fantastic app from prolific indie developer Jordi Bruin.
It lets users quickly and easily transcribe audio, video, meetings, and system audio directly on their Macs using locally run AI models, including OpenAI’s Whisper and Nvidia’s lightning-fast Parakeet.
I use it every day for certain parts of my podcast pre- and post-production workflow, and I can’t praise it enough.
Since launching MacWhisper in 2023, Bruin has steadily expanded its capabilities, streamlined its workflows, and delivered welcome performance improvements.
MacWhisper 14 continues that work with a redesigned editor, faster performance, and several other tweaks.
Here’s Bruin on the update:
We just released version 14.0 and the biggest change is the new Editor View. You can now edit your transcript directly in the main transcript screen, add paragraphs more easily, reassign speakers faster, favorite useful parts of a transcript, and work with much better performance overall.
Bruin says that, based on early feedback, MacWhisper 14.1 has already shipped with a number of fixes and refinements for the new editor. Version 14.1 also added Gladia as a new cloud transcription provider, allowing users to transcribe with their own Gladia API key.
