Anthropic has released its latest AI model with Claude Opus 5. The new version arrives about two months after the previous Opus model upgrade, matching Anthropic’s previous upgrade cadence.
Anthropic says Opus 5 offers near Fable 5 intelligence for half the cost
Anthropic currently offers a lot of AI models under the Claude umbrella.
The three main models are Haiku (smallest and cheapest), Sonnet (medium size and price), and Opus (largest and most expensive of the three).
Today’s release upgrades Claude’s Opus model from version 4.8 to version 5.
Anthropic describes Opus 5 as a “thoughtful and proactive model that comes close to the frontier intelligence of Claude Fable 5 at half the price.”

Fable 5 is the released version of Mythos with safeguards, which Anthropic originally held back due to its capabilities around cybersecurity. Fable 5 remains Anthropic’s most capable model.
