While the Fold 8 Ultra might sound tempting, it’s also a pretty expensive device, coming in at a hefty $2,100 starting price. It’s never been more important to understand your options.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a pretty mean camera package, a bigger display, a larger battery, and a few other genuine design upgrades that set it apart from the standard model. You’ll also find it’s thinner, though it’s actually slightly heavier.
There’s a lot to like with the Ultra, but if you’re just looking for a solid performer and don’t care about all these extras? You might want to give the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a closer look first.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor as the Ultra model and includes 12GB of RAM. The only difference is that the Ultra also has a 16GB upgrade, though it’s debatable if you’d notice any difference in day-to-day use. You won’t get the 200MP main camera or a telephoto shooter, but the 50MP ultrawide sensor is still fairly capable for those who are less concerned about the best camera and more interested in a “better than average” experience.
The rest of the differences mostly come down to design: the Fold 8 has a smaller, more compact design that mostly borrows the same hinge tech from older models. Meanwhile, the Ultra has a better opening gap and a reworked hinge that makes it feel more durable and less fiddly. This durability is also helped along by the new titanium alloy film on the OLED panel.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be a small step down overall, but it’s also $200 cheaper than the Ultra. If value matters more to you, I’d seriously recommend settling for the base model.
