Why This Matters

Despite losing $1 billion annually, Apple TV's future remains secure under incoming CEO John Ternus, who is committed to expanding its entertainment offerings. This signals Apple's continued investment in streaming content, emphasizing its importance in the company's broader ecosystem and competitive strategy. For consumers, this means more original shows and movies, reinforcing Apple TV's position as a key player in digital entertainment.

Key Takeaways

Incoming Apple CEO John Ternus is likely to make a number of changes when he takes over in September, but it’s clear that the company’s loss-making Apple TV streaming service will be safe from any shake-up …

Ternus told Reuters in an interview that the company intends to keep moving forward with the streaming service.

Ternus, ‌said he was committed to building on the company’s momentum in the entertainment business when he takes the helm of the iPhone maker in September […] “I think we have such tremendous momentum right now in Apple TV,” Ternus told Reuters on the red carpet at the premiere of the fourth season of Ted Lasso. “There’s so many amazing shows, so many amazing characters and stories, and so we’re just going to keep building on the momentum.”

Outgoing CEO Tim Cook endorsed this view, saying he was excited by the success of the F1 movie and “more things like that would be possible.” We learned last month that a sequel to the movie is in the works, with Apple Services head Eddy Cue adding that “better and more” was coming to Apple TV.

Ted Lasso season 4 premieres next week, while the company has teased Severance season 3.
