GoKawiilVibes around Meta’s AI glasses are off lately. So much so that one of the top three paid iPhone apps today is dedicated to detecting when someone nearby may be using smart glasses.
The app name is far from subtle: Antizuck Smart Glasses Scanner. It claims to detect and alert you when Meta AI glasses are being worn around you.
Enough iPhone users have spent the $3 to test it that it’s currently ranked #3 on the U.S. iPhone paid App Store chart. New paid apps rarely break into this ranking.
We haven’t tested the app to verify if it works, and even if it does, it’s unclear what you should do if it detects someone is wearing AI glasses.
Camera-equipped smart glasses are still fairly recognizable at this point, too, so you probably don’t need an app to notice when someone is wearing them.
Still, the sentiment is clear. Enough people are irked by the idea of AI smart glasses and feel it’s a privacy issue. That’s a pretty big hurdle for Apple to overcome if it wants to enter the smart glasses arena next year.
