GoKawiiliOS 27 is a big update for Apple’s Photos app, with improvements to slideshows, shared albums, and more. It also adds a welcome camera roll-type feature many have long been asking for: ‘Captured by Me.’

Apple’s Photos app has steadily expanded its feature set over the years. In addition to being home to the photos and videos your iPhone captures, it also includes content that’s been shared with you, Memories, screenshots, saved media, and a lot more.
The Photos app used to offer a ‘Camera Roll’ feature that was similar to what the ‘Recents’ album does today. It included images you captured as well as ones you saved.
But what’s been missing for a long time is a feature that actually just shows photos and videos that you’ve taken—in other words, something that could more accurately be called your ‘camera roll.’
iOS 27 delivers that long-missing feature, and it’s called ‘Captured by Me.’
‘Captured by Me’ in iOS 27 is a new Photos collection that does exactly what it sounds like. It includes only media that’s been captured by your Camera app.
So photos and videos that you shot on your iPhone are collected there. But you won’t see screenshots, images your friends sent you, or any other types of content.
In addition to the dedicated ‘Captured by Me’ collection, you can also use a ‘Captured by Me’ filter in your main Photos library.
Whichever way you use the feature, ‘Captured by Me’ in iOS 27 fills an important gap in Apple Photos’ feature set.
