First look: Google will launch its first Bluetooth tracker at the upcoming "Made by Google" hardware showcase in New York, where it is also expected to unveil the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5. Tentatively named "Pixel Tag," the newest addition to Google's hardware lineup will go up against Apple's AirTag 2, Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag 2, Motorola's Moto Tag 2, and a host of other Bluetooth trackers already on the market.

Leaked images published by 9to5Google ahead of next week's event show the so-called Pixel Tag adopting a pill-shaped, oblong design rather than the circular form factor favored by its rivals. The device is also expected to incorporate a built-in speaker to help users locate it when misplaced.

The images suggest it won't include a dedicated slot for a lanyard or keychain, meaning users will have to buy a case to attach it to key-rings or bags. The leak further points to a launch color Google is calling "Light Fog," which looks like a shade of white. Other hardware details, including battery capacity and Ultra Wideband support, remain undisclosed.

On the software side, the Pixel Tag is expected to plug directly into Find Hub, Google's crowdsourced device-locating network (formerly Find My Device).

Like AirTag and Galaxy SmartTag 2, it's also said to include several anti-stalking safeguards, such as unwanted-tracker alerts and other privacy protections.

Earlier this week, French deals site Dealabs reported that its retail contacts in Europe pegged the Pixel Tag's price at €34.99. US pricing hasn't been confirmed, though early speculation points to around $29 – in line with Apple's AirTag 2. For comparison, AirTag 2 currently retails for $99 for a 4-pack, though it regularly turns up online for $65 to $95.

Google's next Made by Google event is set for August 12 in New York City. Alongside the Pixel Tag, the company is expected to announce the Pixel 11 series – the base Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold – as well as the Pixel Watch 5 in 41mm and 45mm sizes, featuring 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and deeper Gemini integration.
