TL;DR Google’s freshening up its icons for a couple Wear OS apps on Pixel Watches.
Both Clock and Stopwatch are getting new colors that feel a bit more natural.
These changes follow Google updating the ECG icon back in June.
Google’s next smartwatch is just days away, with the Pixel Watch 5 set to go official next Wednesday alongside the new Pixel 11 series. Obviously, we’re looking forward to it arriving with Wear OS 7, but it seems that Google’s also been preparing some additional tweaks to its smartwatch software portfolio, and today we’re checking out a new look for a couple of those apps.
Pull up your Pixel Watch today, and chances are you’ll see an app view much like the one below:
But now, ahead of the Pixel Watch 5 even getting here, Google already appears to be updating a few of these. X user Joe Lenington shares with that they’ve spotted some updated icons showing up for the Wear OS Clock and Stopwatch apps:
Clock gets arguably the biggest changes here, picking up both a revised design and a tweaked color palette. The old-school alarm bells now appear a lot less prominent, and perhaps as a result, the whole thing just looks much less goofy to our eyes. Google also adopts the classic 10:10 hand positioning for its new layout. Once you get used to the darker new appearance, at least, this one feels like a legit upgrade.
The Stopwatch changes are a bit more subtle, and we’re really just getting some new colors for the existing design. While the old look was fine, it now almost feels like a negative version of this new icon, which we’re also fast fans of.
These aren’t the first Wear OS app icons that Google’s been giving some design attention to in recent months, updating its ECG app back in early June. Considering just how much work Google’s been putting into icon redesigns lately, we wouldn’t be surprised if these are far from the last Wear OS apps to try on a new look this summer.
