WhatsApp works on a faster search flow on iOS
As WhatsApp users probably know, there are two main ways to search for past messages in the app. The first is from the main chats list, where a search query looks across all conversations. The second is from a chat’s info screen, which searches only within that specific conversation.
Now, as spotted by WABetaInfo, the app may soon add a faster way to find past messages within a conversation.
According to the website, the latest WhatsApp build available on TestFlight includes references to a search button that will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen when the user starts scrolling back through the chat history.

The new search button does not sit permanently at the bottom of the screen. It only appears when users scroll up through the conversation. This is the same behavior as the button that lets users jump back to the latest message. It shows up contextually, but only when it is useful. When users scroll up to see older messages, the search button appears at the bottom of the screen. Once users return to the bottom of the conversation, the button disappears again.
The site notes that the in-chat search tool returns the same results as the search option currently available in the chat info screen. However, the new button should make searching faster, as users will no longer need to leave the conversation to access it.
WABetaInfo notes that the button isn’t yet available to beta testers. Rather, it remains under development and is expected to roll out in a future TestFlight update ahead of an official release.
