Apple’s base model iPhone 18 won’t launch until early 2027, but when it arrives, it could pack two new Pro-level upgrades.
iPhone 18 to have 12GB RAM and new Dynamic Island design, per Jeff Pu
We’re just a few weeks away from Apple’s big September event where the iPhone 18 Pro and more will be unveiled.
Reporting indicates the base iPhone 18 will be absent from the event. Instead, Apple will launch only iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max alongside iPhone Ultra.
But the base iPhone 18 is still coming, just not until early 2027. It’s expected to debut at the same time as iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.
And per analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 18 could pack a couple of Pro-level upgrades.
In a new research note seen by 9to5Mac, Pu lists out expectations for the base iPhone 18 based on his sources and supply chain checks. And two features stand out:
12GB RAM, up from 8GB in iPhone 17 New Dynamic Island design that’s debuting first on iPhone 18 Pro
We’ve seen conflicting reporting in the past about iPhone 18’s RAM. Most recently, Ming Chi-Kuo said the device will only get 9GB of RAM, not 12GB.
However, Pu’s report mentions 9GB coming to iPhone 18e, with 12GB for iPhone 18. This despite both models including the A20 chip.
