Insta360 has launched the X6, its new flagship 360 camera and successor to last year’s Insta360 X5. The biggest upgrades are inside, with larger sensors, faster 8K recording, improved low-light performance, and a new AI system designed to take much of the editing work off your hands.
The X6 uses dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, giving it 33% more sensor area than the X5 and around four times the light intake per frame, according to Insta360. A triple-chip system handles image processing, while a new low-light mode and AdaptiveTone 2.0 aim to improve detail and dynamic range in difficult lighting.

Video capture now reaches 8K at 50fps in 360 mode, while flat video goes up to 5K60. The camera supports 10-bit I-Log and 14.5 stops of dynamic range. The X6 is also the first 360 camera with native Dolby Vision. Insta360 says it processes Dolby Vision metadata in-camera to adjust contrast and brightness frame by frame, with 10-bit color providing more than 1.07 billion recordable colors.
One camera, three jobs The X6 isn’t limited to 360-degree video. Insta360 has built it as a 3-in-1 device that can work as a 360 camera, a single-lens action camera, or a subject-tracking gimbal camera. The latter lets you pair the camera with the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit to turn automatic subject tracking into gimbal-style framing.
InstaFrame 2.0 can automatically track people, pets, and objects to produce flat 4K footage, while keeping an 8K 360-degree recording as a backup. Switch to single-lens mode, and the X6 can shoot up to 5K60 or 4K120 for slow-motion footage.
