We bring you this dispatch from the AI slop dungeon known as Facebook: fake, AI-generated podcast bros are currently racking up views on Mark Zuckerberg’s first social network by doling out “relationship advice,” mostly in the form of banal screeds about how men are failing women.
The videos are designed to resemble the short video pullouts popularized by the practice known as “clipping.” But rather than snip short videos from real podcasts, these accounts seek to create short segments of fake podcasts that don’t actually exist, featuring made-up podcasters who aren’t real.
“A woman working 40 hours a week or more, paying for her own hair, nails, rent, car, food, and gas, handling everything by herself — she’s not going to be the soft, feminine woman you expect her to be,” a bearded, silver-haired man in a fitted black t-shirt says into a podcast-style microphone. The man — who is AI-generated — is said to be a “motivational speaker,” and is featured on a Facebook page called “The Male Insight.”
“And no, she can’t bring you peace when she’s living in survival mode every single day,” the man adds. “She’s been carrying weight that was never meant to be carried alone.”
The video has close to 200,000 views.
“We live in a generation where women have to become the man, because the men are busy acting like the princess,” the Male Insight says in another clip. “Men today have no discipline, no accountability, no emotional intelligence. They don’t know how to protect, they don’t know how to provide, but they still walk around thinkin’ that they’re the prize that women should be grateful for. They want the traditional wife treatment, but they bring zero traditional husband energy.”
“Yeah,” a disembodied voice nods offscreen. According to Facebook, the video has garnered around 280,000 views.
The videos all follow the same formula. A fake AI guy sits at a microphone, lecturing for a minute or two about the qualities and behaviors that define a strong man or “good woman,” and what men are doing so wrong in their relationships with women. The deeply gendered advice generally accuses men of being overly reactive, controlling, or lazy, while explaining that women are “tired” of the guys who don’t “show up” for them and “take accountability” for their failings. The messages are packaged in platitudes that have the distinctive flavor of Jay Shetty-styled self-help, though communicated through AI guys who look like pretty much a guest on Joe Rogan’s show.
It appears to be women, not men, who are the content’s target audience. Commenters on viral clips are mostly older women agreeing with the AI men’s messaging, cosigning the faux clips with statements like “never accept less than your value” or “Dudes!! Listen up!! We are NOT that complicated.”
