Why This Matters

Spotify's new 'Playlist Notes' feature enhances user engagement by allowing both listeners and editors to add contextual notes to tracks, audiobooks, and podcasts within playlists. This development fosters a more personalized and informative listening experience, bridging the gap between curated content and user interaction. It also provides creators and editors with a tool to share insights, cultural relevance, or reasons behind track selections, enriching the overall platform ecosystem.

TL;DR Spotify is introducing a new “Playlist Notes” feature.

Users will be able to add notes to the songs, audiobooks, and podcast episodes they add to their playlists.

Spotify’s editors will also use the feature to give context behind songs added to curated playlists.

After adding the new Running Mode and User Notes features, Spotify is introducing yet another feature for its users: Playlist Notes. With it, Spotify hopes to let both users and its team of editors add context to the playlists they curate.

The “Playlist Notes” feature is an extension of the “User Notes” feature Spotify introduced late last month. User Notes allowed users to add notes to individual tracks in playlists they owned. However, the streaming platform is now expanding it to cover not just tracks but also audiobooks and podcast episodes that users add to playlists they own or collaborate on.

To add a note to your playlist, open any playlist you own or collaborate on, tap the three-dot icon next to a track, tap “Add note,” write your note, and save it. The note will be visible right below the track, along with your name.

Meanwhile, Spotify editors will also use Playlist Notes to explain why a track is included in a playlist, highlight its cultural relevance, or explain why it matters. Users can view these notes by tapping the “Notes” button at the top of participating playlists: Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.

The Playlist Notes feature in Spotify-curated playlists is rolling out in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The feature is available to users aged 16 or older on Spotify Premium or Free plans. Meanwhile, Playlist Notes for user-created playlists is rolling out on Android and iOS in over 100 regions.
