GoKawiilTL;DR A leaked image appears to give us an early look at the Sony Xperia 10 VIII ahead of its August 25 unveiling.
The phone looks remarkably similar to the Xperia 10 VII, retaining the flat back, horizontal dual-camera bar, and side-mounted fingerprint reader.
Leaks also point to the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and 8GB of RAM, leaving us wondering where Sony’s biggest upgrades will come from.
A few days ago, we reported that Sony could unveil the Xperia 10 VIII this week. We may not have to wait until the event to see what it looks like, though. Android Headlines has now shared an image that appears to show Sony’s Xperia 10 VIII out in the wild.
The image shows a woman holding the phone and looking at the screen. More importantly, we get a clear look at the back. The phone appears to have a white finish with a slight green tint, and if you’ve seen the Xperia 10 VII before, you’ll probably notice something immediately: Sony hasn’t changed much.
The Xperia 10 VIII appears to stick with the same simple design as its predecessor, including the flat back and horizontal camera bar running across the top. There are two rear cameras, an LED flash, and Sony branding inside the camera area. Put the two generations side by side, and at least from this angle, you might have to look twice to figure out which one is newer.
We don’t get to see the front of the Xperia 10 VIII in this image, so there could still be some changes hiding there. However, if Sony carries over the Xperia 10 VII’s approach, the phone could once again skip the punch-hole selfie camera that has become standard on just about every Android phone . Instead, the camera would sit in a slightly thicker top bezel.
Look closely at the phone’s right edge, and you can also make out the volume rocker and the power button sitting underneath it. The latter is expected to double as the fingerprint reader, just as it did on the Xperia 10 VII.
What we can’t clearly see is a dedicated camera shutter button. The Xperia 10 VII had one, and there’s a good chance it’s being covered by the woman’s hand in this image. We wouldn’t take its absence here as confirmation that Sony has removed it, especially since the leak only gives us one angle of the phone.
So far, though, the Xperia 10 VIII is looking like a very familiar upgrade, and that goes beyond its design. A recent Geekbench listing (via GSMArena) also points to a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor paired with 8GB of RAM, which is the same basic combination Sony used on the Xperia 10 VII.
