GoKawiilApple launched a new Mac mini yesterday with M6 and M5 Pro chips, and reports online show that recent, backordered M4 purchases are being upgraded for free to the new model.

As spotted by MacRumors, Apple has started contacting some customers who recently ordered an M4 Mac mini before the M6 and M5 models were announced.
The Mac mini has been backordered in several configurations for a while. As a result, users who purchased an M4 model but were still awaiting delivery might have been disappointed by the announcement of a new model.
But Apple has good news: it’s upgrading those M4 orders to M6 or M5 Pro models instead.
Had a Mac mini on backorder from Apple with an October 26 delivery date. Opened my email today to find they upgraded my order to the new model, moved delivery up to September, and honored my original price.

Another user posted on Reddit that Apple upgraded their M4 Pro model to an M5 Pro instead.
They had placed the order a week and a half ago, but it hadn’t shipped. And based on the new pricing, they’re essentially saving $300 that the equivalent M5 Pro model would have cost.
